Canadian Fire Rescue College is a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and accepts international applications for the Firefighter I &II program. This page is dedicated to informing international students about special considerations they should take prior to, and during their enrollment.

If your credentials (such as high school diploma or GED) are in a language other than english, you will be required to take additional language proficiency testing through TOEFL or IELTS. This testing is required to ensure you will be successful in our training programs. To learn more about the CFRC English Language Proficiency requirements, visit our Registration and Admission Policy.

Canadian Fire Rescue College requires that all international students submit proof of valid health insurance for the duration of their training program. Students may be eligible to apply for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Program (AHCIP). If not eligible for AHCIP, students must purchase adequate insurance coverage privately.

International student pre-requisites (such as high school diploma or GED) must be assessed by the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) who will perform an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). This assessment is done to ensure your credentials are equal to their Canadian counterpart. There is a fee for this service, and after completion applicants are issued a report that is valid for 5 years.

International students will need to arrange for travel to the campus. This can be via car, bus, rideshare, taxi, or a combination of these and aircraft.

The City of Red Deer is located nearby the College campus, and offers mental health, and physical health services through Alberta Health Services clinics, and hospitals. Click the button below to learn more about the services available nearby.

International students who successfully complete training at the Canadian Fire Rescue College are NOT eligible for Post Graduate Work Permits (PGWP).
International students are accommodated in on-campus dormitories for the duration of their training program. Dorm rooms are furnished with twin-size beds and include access to shared amenities such as a full kitchen, laundry facilities, and dishware and cutlery.
Meals are not included in tuition. Optional hot-meal plans are available for purchase through the College at an additional cost and include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Monday through Friday.
Students who prefer off-campus accommodations may arrange their own housing. A variety of options are available in the surrounding area, including short-term rentals (such as Airbnb) and hotels in Red Deer.

The Canadian Fire Rescue College cannot provide immigration advice (or advice on student visas, work permits, etc.). International students are referred to immigration consultants or immigration lawyers.
