    CFRC Student Accommodation

    Canadian Fire Rescue College offers on-site student accommodation to support students throughout their training experience. Our dormitory-style housing is designed to be practical, comfortable, and distraction-free, allowing students to focus fully on their course, recovery, and performance.


    Accommodation is located on campus in Springbrook, Alberta, just steps from training facilities, classrooms, and common areas.

    Private Rooms with Practical Amenities

    Each student is provided with a single-occupancy room, offering personal space and privacy throughout their stay.


    Each room includes:


    • A single bed with linens, pillow, and towels provided
    • Personal sink
    • Desk and chair
    • Closet and chest of drawers
    • Secure room access
       

    All rooms are intended to meet the needs of students participating in physically and mentally demanding firefighter training programs.

    Shared & Private Bathroom Access

    Most bathrooms are shared, maintained regularly, and separated by gender. Men and women never share bathrooms.


    Depending on class size and gender balance, private bathrooms may be made available to students who require them. Bathroom assignments are managed by CFRC staff to ensure comfort, privacy, and professionalism.

    What’s Included During Your Stay

    Students staying in on-site accommodation have access to a range of amenities to support daily life during training:


    • High-speed Wi-Fi
    • On-site laundry facilities
    • Common lounge and shared spaces
    • Kitchen and food preparation areas
    • Refrigeration and storage
    • On-site parking
       

    All firefighting gear and training equipment are stored in designated training areas, while student rooms are intended for personal items, clothing, and rest.

    Meals & Daily Life on Campus

    CFRC has a Red Seal chef on site, and students have the option to purchase meal cards for the duration of their course. Alternatively, cooking facilities, tools, and storage are available to use for meal preparation in the common kitchen.


    Meal cards include:


    • Three full meals per day
    • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
    • Consistent, nutritious meals aligned with training demands

    Flexible Arrival & Departure

    Accommodation availability is flexible and designed to support student travel needs.Students typically:

    • Stay for the full duration of their course
    • May arrive a few days before the course begins
    • May depart a few days after the course ends, depending on travel arrangements


    Specific arrival and departure timing is coordinated during enrollment.

    Cost & Booking

    On-site student accommodation is provided at no cost to enrolled CFRC students.


    Students indicate whether they plan to use accommodation during the application process, allowing staff to coordinate room assignments in advance.


    This benefit is offered to reduce barriers for out-of-town, out-of-province, and international students.

    Expectations, Conduct & Safety

    CFRC maintains professional standards within all student accommodations to ensure a safe and respectful environment.


    Key expectations include:


    • Quiet hours begin at 9:00 PM
    • No guests are permitted in the dormitory building after this time. 
    • Any guests who attend the dormitories are the responsibility of the staff or student who invited them and must act in accordance with the dormitory rules. 
    • Alcohol and drugs are not permitted on campus
    • Dormitories are smoke-free, with designated smoking areas located elsewhere on campus
    • No curfew, but respectful conduct is expected at all times
    • Students are expected to regularily clean their rooms, including making their beds, doing laundry, and keeping surfaces tidy. 
    • Students are responsible for ensuring common areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways remain clean and free of debris.
       

    Communal areas are monitored, and students are provided with keys for dormitory and room access. Fire alarms, smoke detectors, and emergency procedures are in place, and staff are available after hours in case of emergency.


    Full rules, responsibilities, and consequences are outlined in the official Dormitory Rules Agreement, which all residents are required to review and sign prior to occupancy

    The Canadian Fire Rescue College campus is located in the community of Springbrook, offering students a quiet, focused training environment while remaining close to essential services and amenities.


    Springbrook is situated just southwest of Red Deer, with quick access to Red Deer and Gasoline Alley, one of Central Alberta’s primary commercial and service hubs.


    Approximate distances from campus:


    • Gasoline Alley: 5–10 minutes by car
    • Downtown Red Deer: 10–15 minutes by car
    • Penhold: 5-10 minutes by car
       

    Within Penhold, Red Deer and Gasoline Alley, students have access to:


    • Major grocery stores
    • Restaurants, cafés, and coffee shops
    • Pharmacies and medical clinics
    • Banks and financial services
    • Retail and big-box stores
    • Fitness facilities and other personal services
       

    In addition, the campus itself is conveniently located:


    • 2-minute walk to a convenience store with essential items
    • 2-minute walk to a pharmacy and walk-in clinic
       

    This proximity allows students to easily meet daily needs while benefiting from the structure and efficiency of staying on campus during training.

    Travel from Major Centres & Airports

    Canadian Fire Rescue College serves students from across Canada and internationally, and the Springbrook campus is centrally located along Alberta’s primary north–south travel corridor.


    Distance to Major Cities


    • Red Deer: Approximately 11 km northeast (10–15 minutes by car)
    • Calgary: Approximately 135–165 km south (1.5–1.75 hours by car via Highway 2)
    • Edmonton: Approximately 150 km north (1.5–1.75 hours by car via Highway 2)


    Arriving by Air


    Students travelling from outside the region typically fly into one of Alberta’s two major international airports, then continue by ground transportation to Red Deer and Springbrook.


    Edmonton International Airport (YEG)


    • Located approximately 120 km north of Red Deer
    • Regular coach bus service operates between Edmonton International Airport and Red Deer
    • Typical travel time: ~1 hour 10–15 minutes
       

    Common providers include:


    • The Canada Bus
    • Rider Express
       

    Once in Red Deer, Springbrook is a short taxi or rideshare trip from bus drop-off locations.


    Calgary International Airport (YYC)


    • Located approximately 135–140 km south of Red Deer
    • Coach bus services operate between Calgary / Calgary International Airport and Red Deer
    • Typical travel time: ~1.5–2 hours, depending on route and connection
       

    Common providers include:


    • The Canada Bus
    • FlixBus
       

    From Red Deer, students can complete the final leg of their journey to Springbrook via taxi or rideshare.


    Travel Notes for Students


    • Public transit options between Red Deer and Springbrook are limited; most students rely on taxis, rideshare services, or arranged transportation.
    • Students are encouraged to plan travel in advance, particularly when arriving outside of peak daytime hours.
    • Arrival and departure flexibility is available, allowing students to coordinate travel comfortably around course start and end dates.
