Life at the Canadian Fire Rescue College is built around the physical and mental demands of the fire service. From structured training days to independent conditioning and recovery, students are immersed in an environment designed to build strength, resilience, and readiness for the realities of the job.
Our on-campus training and activity spaces are designed to support every stage of that process; from high-performance strength training to recovery, mobility, and downtime between evolutions.

Physical fitness is a critical component of firefighter readiness, and it is treated as such throughout your time at CFRC. Students have access to a dedicated strength training space equipped with a commercial squat cage and bench press, Olympic barbells, bumper plates, and a full range of dumbbells to support progressive, functional training.
A full-size multi-use pulley machine is also being installed to further expand training capabilities and support targeted strength development across all major movement patterns.
These spaces are designed to support the type of training that translates directly to the fireground — lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and working effectively under load.

Cardiovascular endurance is a key component of success in the fire service. CFRC provides a dedicated cardio training space equipped with treadmills and an elliptical machine to support conditioning, endurance development, and overall fitness maintenance throughout training.
Whether preparing for firefighter fitness testing, improving work capacity, or recovering between practical evolutions, students have access to equipment that supports consistent cardiovascular training in a structured environment.

Firefighting requires far more than strength alone. Mobility, balance, coordination, and core stability all play an important role in reducing injury risk and improving performance on the fireground.
CFRC provides a dedicated movement and recovery space equipped with exercise bands, yoga balls, ropes, an ab roller, and additional tools designed to support stretching, mobility work, core training, and functional movement exercises.
This space allows students to focus on recovery, injury prevention, flexibility, and movement quality — all essential components of long-term performance in the fire service.

Recovery and mental reset are just as important as physical training. CFRC provides dedicated spaces for students to decompress, recharge, and connect with their peers outside of structured training hours.
An on-site activity room features a full-size ping pong table, while additional recreational elements — including a dartboard located between training spaces — create opportunities for downtime and camaraderie.
These shared spaces help foster the sense of community that is central to the fire service, where teamwork, trust, and connection play a critical role both on and off the fireground.
Every aspect of the CFRC environment is designed to support your development — not just as a student, but as a future firefighter. From physical conditioning to recovery and community, students are immersed in an environment built to prepare them for the realities of the fire service from day one.
